Description

Struggling with fertility can be a difficult and emotional experience, and for men who suspect their sperm count may be the cause, the uncertainty, and worry can be overwhelming. That’s where this test kit comes in – it offers a quick and easy way to get some answers and take the first steps toward finding a solution.

By providing a simple and discreet way to test sperm concentration at home, this kit can help alleviate some of the stress and anxiety that often come with fertility struggles. In just five minutes, you can collect a semen sample and find out if the concentration of sperm falls within the normal range of greater than 15 million per mL.

While this test can be a helpful starting point, it’s important to keep in mind that it does not provide a detailed sperm count or indicate whether the sperm concentration is healthy or not. It’s also important to note that fertility issues can have a variety of causes, and this test should not be seen as a definitive diagnosis.

However, for men who are curious about their sperm count and want to explore their fertility options in a private and low-pressure way, this test kit can be a great tool. Whether you choose to involve your GP or explore other options, this test can be a helpful first step toward getting the answers and support you need.

Instructions

To gather and analyse your sample, follow these simple steps:

In order to ensure accurate results, it’s crucial that you abstain from any sexual activity for 3-7 days before testing. This helps to ensure that the volume and quality of your sperm sample is at its peak, providing an accurate depiction of your sperm concentration. To collect your sample, masturbate directly into the test cup provided and take care not to contaminate the sample in any way, including by touch or tissue.

Once you’ve collected your sample, let it stand at room temperature for one hour before testing. It’s important not to wait longer than 12 hours before testing the sample, as this can affect the accuracy of your results.

To perform the test, follow these simple steps:

  1. Remove the test cassette from its foil pouch and lay it on a flat surface.
  2. Input your semen sample into the cup provided.
  3. Let the sample stand for 60 minutes to ensure that it is properly liquefied.
  4. Use the semen transfer device (provided) to fill up to the 0.1ml level indicated on the device with your semen sample. Then, add the sample to the vial of sample dilution buffer.
  5. Mix the semen sample with the test solution (dilution buffer) by securing the lid and turning the vial upside down 5-10 times.
  6. Hold the vial upright and open the cap. Transfer 2 full drops to the specimen well of the test cassette, then set a timer for 5 minutes.
  7. Wait for 5 minutes after dispensing the specimen to read the results. Be sure not to read the results after 10 minutes.

By following these steps, you can confidently and accurately test your sperm concentration in the comfort and privacy of your own home.

Reading the Results

Understanding Your Male Fertility Test Results

After performing the test, your reading should clearly indicate whether your sperm concentration is normal or abnormal (low). It’s important to note that the results should be read 5 minutes after dispensing the specimen – reading the results after 10 minutes may lead to inaccurate readings.

Here’s what to look for in your results:

  • NORMAL: If you see two coloured lines, one in the control line region (C) and the other in the test line region (T), this indicates a normal concentration of sperm in your sample. It’s important to note that the intensity of the colour in the test line region (T) may vary depending on the concentration of SP-10 protein present in the specimen. Regardless of the colour, a line in the test line region (T) should be considered normal.
  • ABNORMAL: If you see just one coloured line in the control line region (C) and no line in the test line region (T), this indicates an abnormal (low) sperm concentration in your sample.
  • INVALID: If the control line (C) fails to appear, the test is invalid. This is usually caused by insufficient specimen volume or incorrect procedural techniques. In most cases, insufficient specimen volume or incorrect procedural techniques are likely to have caused the control line failure. If this occurs, please reread the instructions and try again with a new kit. It’s important to note that the test cannot be reused.

By following these guidelines and reading your results correctly, you can gain valuable insights into your sperm concentration and take the necessary steps towards improving your fertility. If you do encounter an invalid result due to control line failure, please review the instructions carefully and try again with a new kit. With proper specimen collection and procedural techniques, you can ensure accurate and reliable results from the comfort and privacy of your own home.

User Guide

FAQ

How does the Male Fertility Test (SP-10) work?
The Male Fertility Test (SP-10) specifically detects a protein called SP-10 found only in male germ cells. It is used to measure sperm concentration in semen, helping to identify potential causes of infertility. If the test detects SP-10 and the sperm concentration is above 15 million/ml, it is considered a positive result, indicating a normal fertility level.

When should I use the test?
The test can be used to assist in diagnosing and monitoring male infertility. It also provides guidance for reproductive planning for couples who are eligible.

Can abnormal results mean I’m unable to have children?
Sperm concentration is just one factor in semen analysis, and other factors like motility should be considered as well. It is recommended to consult a medical expert if you receive an abnormal result for further guidance and evaluation.

What can cause inaccurate test results?
Any errors made during sample collection, the timing of the test, or failure to follow the instructions (such as abstaining from sexual activity) can lead to incorrect test results.
